Albany (May 2, 2013) – On April 30, 2013, 50 companies with operations in the Empire State were recognized for their outstanding achievements in employee engagement. They were honored as the Best Companies to Work for in New York State at an awards event in Albany, during which their ranks were revealed and the top winners named.
Created in 2007, these celebrated, sixth annual awards are part of a distinctive program that evaluates and ranks the best places of employment. This statewide survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in New York, whose practices benefit the State's businesses, economy, and workforce.
The list of honorees is comprised of 50 companies in a wide array of industries split into two groups based on size: small/medium-sized employers with 5-249 U.S. employees and large employers with more than 250 associates. [A ranked list of honorees is provided at the end of this release.]
To be considered for participation, organizations had to fulfill specific registration eligibility requirements, then participate in a two-part survey of employee satisfaction and engagement, as well as workplace practices and policies. Best Companies Group, an independent firm that manages Best Places to Work programs on state, regional and national levels around the world, conducted the survey process, then evaluated the results and determined the best places of employment in the Empire State.
“What makes this program unique is how the rankings are derived. Each company is not judged by an outsider, but by their own employee base. The very people who make it happen day in and day out are critiquing their workplace. You understand that feedback from your employees is invaluable to improving satisfaction and business results,” said Lorri Zelman, event emcee and chair of the program for the New York State Society for Human Resource Management (NYS-SHRM).
